About us

At Bi Yuu, we believe that design and innovation are tools through which we can create a positive impact in the lives of our partners and clients. We believe that this impact, created by our products and processes, gives our rugs soul.

Our rugs tell stories that are in dialogue with tradition, expressing inspiration and emotion through careful combinations of color, texture and form.

Our Team

We make rugs that promote collective work and sustainability through design. At Bi Yuu, we respect local customs and traditions because we understand and value the time it takes to produce something by hand. To us, the process is as important as the final product.

We are an innovative, interdisciplinary creative team that works horizontally and in constant dialogue with our strategic partners.

It is also fundamental for us to build long-term ties with the artisans of Teotitlán del Valle and Uttar Pradesh, India as well as with the organizations we work. We aim to cultivate meaningful relationships with them, based on the exchange of knowledge with our design studio in Mexico City.

GoodWeave

Social Design
has no zip Code.

We are proud to certify our rugs with GoodWeave, a nonprofit organization that sponsors social programs in Afghanistan, India and Nepal.

At Bi Yuu, we are interested in building connections with agents of social change in order to improve the quality of life of the communities in which our rugs are made.

We work to strengthen education and to fight against child labor in the manufacture and purchase of our textiles, and to improve the labor conditions of adult artisans, thus promoting positive change in these communities.

Materials

At Bi Yuu, we only use the highest-quality fibers that allow our rugs to age beautifully.

We employ high quality Lincoln, merino and New Zealand fibers made in Mexico, stimulating domestic supply chains. The length and fine structure of our threads add resistance and weight to our rugs. Wool is a natural fiber, biodegradable and recyclable

¿Qué diferencia a nuestros hilos?

Sustainable use of Natural Pigments

In our local production methods, we exclusively use natural pigments for individual pieces and special orders no larger than five rugs.

Some of the natural pigments we use are derived from indigo, Mexican tarragon, marush, cochineal, walnut, Mexican honeysuckle and pomegranate, whose optimal harvest or collection in the wild depends on the rainy season, or on meticulous nurturing in the case of cochineal, a cactus parasite from which carmine is extracted.

We therefore aim to use natural pigments for limited editions, ensuring quality control in the dying process and contributing to the survival of the region’s pigments and water resources.

We recommend their use for residential spaces or boutique hotels.

Responsible Colorants

The closer the contact with a product, the stricter the compliance with human and ecological requirements. Our provider of colorants for animal fibers therefore operates in strict compliance with the international norms of the textile industry, such as OEKO-TEX.

We recommend this dying process for commercial, institutional, hotel or office projects that require large orders or resistant colors for heavy use.
